History
In 1952, DeVille Albury and Lorraine Lones had a vision. After teaching in the public school system, DeVille Albury and Lorraine Lones made a decision to start a private school on a piece of farmland in South Miami. Their vision, to begin an independent school that could offer an enriched curriculum providing the highest standards of intellectual development, physical fitness, and social and emotional growth for students, came to fruition in the fall of 1952. From the school’s inception, the first class of 36 Kindergarten students to the school’s present capacity of 280 students, the endeavor has always been the same; to provide an enriching atmosphere that enables each child to reach their full potential.
Pinewood Acres School is one of the first established proprietary day schools in the Miami area. Our small class size, caring experienced teachers, and advanced academic curriculum allow us to consistently provide each child the opportunity to reach his or her full potential. Due to the school’s years of operation under the continuous ownership and management of the Lones family, Pinewood Acres has been able to create an effective educational program to educate the whole child through academic enrichment and a nurturing environment situated on a sprawling 10 acre campus that lends itself to the study of nature.
The Pinewood Acres tradition is a successful one that benefits many children and families. Everyone at Pinewood Acres is dedicated to ensuring that all of our programs reflect the principles that have established the school as the standard for excellence in elementary and preschool education for over 55 years.

Philosophy
We believe every life is worthy, has merit, and can make a contribution to the world of which we are all a part. Through education we can show each individual his or her own worth and their place in this world in which they, through their efforts, can shape and improve. If everyone believed that they could make a difference in this world and strived to produce the best of which he or she was capable, what a world we would have!
Pinewood Acres School is interested in quality – the quality of the education, mental and emotional lives of our children, and the quality of the experiences we provide for them through which they may mature and grow.
The faculty and administration is committed to providing an enriched academic curriculum within a caring and nurturing environment to create a positive educational experience.
We all want what is best for our children, not only in terms of the physical necessities of life, but in terms of the growth and development of the total child, the functioning human being who will one day have to make their way in this world.
If we dedicate ourselves to teaching others the value of positive lives, the value of contribution to the society of which they are a part, then our society as a whole cannot help but profit from it.
If we remember that we teach not only by words but by deeds, then we will live our lives as citizens of this great land in such a manner that exemplifies the belief that every life is worthy, has merit, and can make a contribution to the world.
